The Barracuda Hydrodynamic Stormwater Separator

The Barracuda is a high-performance vortex hydrodynamic stormwater separator designed to remove suspended solids in order to protect the public waterways from pollutants of concern. It offers an outstanding value with the versatility of multiple pipe configurations and the convenience of quick installation.  The Barracuda hydrodynamic separator is available in four, six and eight foot diameter units.  The unit is designed to target total suspended solids (TSS) and floatable debris.  It is a cost effective, efficient, versatile, and easy to maintain hydrodynamic separator.

The Barracuda hydrodynamic separator is named for its “teeth”, a revolutionary design feature made out of stainless steel, which are located in the sump area of the unit.  The Barracuda’s “teeth” are designed to disrupt turbulence in the sump area of the unit.  Turbulence can disrupt particle separation and increase resuspension which negatively affects removal performance.  The Barracuda system mitigates the turbulence to prevent resuspension of captured contaminants and improve removal efficiencies.

The Barracuda is designed for quick and easy field assembly inside of a precast manhole.  The four foot Barracuda is also available preassembled in an HP polypropylene manhole.  The system is designed to be easily maintained by using a vacuum truck or comparable equipment. Because of its accessibility through the “bowl” located at the top of the unit, there is no need for confined space entry or part removal/replacement.

The flexible design of the Barracuda also allows for variability in the inlet and outlet locations and with the number of inlet pipes.  With 144 degrees of available inlet position and 88 degrees of available outlet position, the Barracuda unit can be configured to meet most site storm sewer layout configurations.  That design flexibility coupled with the fact that no elevation change is required across the unit from inlet to outlet means the Barracuda hydrodynamic separator can be configured to the proposed or existing site design and does not require the engineer to design around the Barracuda structure.

The internal bypass feature allows the Barracuda to be installed as an inline stormwater treatment unit capable of conveying 100% of the design peak flow. The Barracuda  hydrodynamic separator is built to remove at least 80% of the suspended solids on an annual aggregate removal basis and third party verified testing is available.  The Barracuda is an approved hydrodynamic separator through the New Jersey Department of the Environmental Protection(NJDEP/NJCAT).
