FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hilliard, Ohio – February 24, 2010: Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (ADS) today announced that its popular Water Quality Unit meets ASTM's new standard, "ASTM F2737 Standard Specification for Corrugated High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Water Quality Units." This international standard provides the material, design and manufacturing requirements for the structure and is the first standard ever issued by ASTM for storm water quality products.
Water Quality Units are utilized on both new development and retrofit applications to comply with Federal EPA regulations. These units assist in providing compliance with the Clean Water Act by removing total susped solids and other pollutants leaving the site. ADS developed this line to help engineers, owners, and developers meet complex and evolving water quality standards.
Fabricated from HDPE, the ADS water quality unit provides a watertight, long-lasting, highly-efficient and cost-effective treatment device. The unit is designed to treat first flush flows, with a bypass to allow large storm conveyance without resuspension. The ADS water quality unit features two 30-inch HDPE diameter risers for easy clean out and accessibility. Internally, the structure utilizes two internal weirs for sediment and oil separation. The water quality unit is required by the ASTM standard to meet AASHTO LRFD Section 12 structural design requirements and will resist AASHTO H-25 or greater loads and associated dead loads for each project application. Units are available in 36" through 60" sizes providing multiple flow rates.
"This is the first Water Quality Unit standard specification issued by ASTM," stated Kevin Miller, water quality market manager of ADS. "This standard provides a first step towards a standardized design and production method for the water quality industry." ADS introduced extruded corrugated pipe over 40 years ago, and is the world's largest producer of corrugated HDPE pipe.
